Do You Read? #30DayBlogChallenge

Day 8

One of the first books I remember reading was The Giver. I was in grade school when I read this book, about a young boy named Jonas living in this Utopian society written by Lois Lowry. In New Orleans we were required to read the books on the summer reading list that we received at the end of the year. Within the first week of the new school year we'd get tested on those books. I loved this book, because at such an early age it made me question this society and the way people think based on what they're taught to believe. The Giver forces you to think of what exactly "right and wrong" is, and who determines those logistics. In 2014 The Giver was released as a movie, starring Jeff Bridges as the giver and Brenton Thwaites as Jonas. The film was a minor success, setting up a platform for a sequel. I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as I did the book.

A book I didn't like so much was Let the Circle Be Unbroken, the sequel to Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor. Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry was an amazing book that really increased my interest in reading in at a young age. However the sequel contained a lot of broken dialect, which made the book hard to read. Because of this I lost interest in the book and never finished the series.
