Phrases, THOTS VS On Fleek #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day12 1. T.H.O.T = Those Hoes Over There Whoever decided to make an acronym for that word; like high five to you because it's hilarious. I do not seriously use this term, so if you ever hear me saying this please know that it's for comedy. In 2013 is when I believe the acronym became popular and since then people have added to the acronym such as; thotties, McThotson, Thot Pocket, Thottied, etc... The list can go on.  2. Fleek = Nice Honestly I don't know the correct definition for the term but the implied definition is it means nice or good. This word is hilarious to me but you'll never catch me using it. The word is just too odd to place in a sentence for me. Popular phrases using the term are like: hair on fleek, eyebrows on fleek, fleekish, fleeked, outfit on fleek etc... Basically the common phrase has the "on" in front of the word. I would say this word evolved in 2013 also and I have no clue where it came from, probably vine.

Top 10 Albums of 2015

Image
This list was derived based on album sales, relevancy, Billboard charts, art, quality, and overall organized sound of the album. There is no particular order or rank for the list, just 10 of the year’s best albums from my perspective. These are not album reviews meaning I am not critiquing the albums. For my thoughts and criticism on the albums, go to my music reviews. Big Sean - Dark Sky Paradise   Although you haven't heard much from Sean in the latest months of the year, he's definitely have had a great year. Sean released his third studio album Dark Sky Paradise on February 24, 2015 and well, he's been waaaay up, blessed since having over 300,000 in sales. The lead single "I Don't F*** With You" shot straight up the charts going platinum 3x making fans anticipate the album. The follow up singles; Paradise, Blessings, Play No Games, and One Man Can Change the World all topped the music charts at their release time. Dark Sky Paradise is certi

Single Life, Relationship, or Situationship ? #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day 11 Well my current relationship status is single. At the age of 22, being single have its ups and downs of course. I've developed a lot of mixed emotions about the single life. In 2014 I broke up with my ex boy friend of two years and I've been back "on the market" since. I enjoy having the freedom of not really answering to anyone about who, what, when, where I'm doing whatever it is I'm doing, but the single life does get lonely sometimes. Since my break up there's one guy that truly caught my interest and our situationship has been a complete roller coaster and I'm not sure it's even worth the ride. Wait, let me go back and define what a situationship is in case you've never heard of the term.  A situationship is  basically a pseudo-relationship masking itself as a formative relationship. It smells like a relationship, it sorta looks like a relationship, and it may even feel like one, but it's not. So yeah for those of you o

I Hate Grapefruits #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day 10 This was hard because I really love fruit. I guess the fruit I dislike the most would be a grapefruit. I'll eat it if it's the only option, but I really hate the bitter taste. Unfortunately for me grapefruits are known as one of the healthiest fruits, so I guess I'm missing out on nutrients.  Here are some nutritional facts about the grapefruit: §   Delicious, grapefruit is very low in calories, consists of just 42 calories per 100 g. Nonetheless; it is rich in dietary insoluble fiber   pectin , which works as bulk laxative. Dietary fiber helps to protect the colon mucous membrane by decreasing exposure time to toxic substances in the colon as well as binding to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon. §   Pectin has also been shown to reduce blood cholesterol levels by decreasing re-absorption of cholesterol in the colon. §   The fruit contains very good levels of vitamin-A (provides about 1150 IU per 100g), and flavonoid antioxidants such as   nari

Willow Smith Ardipithecus Review

Image
Finally Willow Smith releases her debut album Ardipithecus ! Fans like me for months and years were teasers with singles and EPs, but patiently waiting to hear more than 3 or 4 songs at a time. Now the question is, did she deliever and satisfies her audience hunger for her music? The answer is yes! She's perfectly unique in my book, but with her neo-soul style you'll either really enjoy her sound or instantly not. That's the pros and cons about being a unique artist. The 15 track album has only one feature from an artist named Jabs, nice job. Although I really wanted to hear another song with the singer SZA like on her 3 Ep. However Ardipithecus gives us a nice neo-soul pop alternative sound that is well balanced by Willow's voice. I enjoyed the whole album honestly; my favorite songs are Waves of Nature, IDK, and RandomSong. This is exciting for me because not only is willow touching on topics that I discuss in my own writing, but she's only 15. So young wit

The Truth About Ageism #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day 9 Ageism is a common discrimination often overshadowed, but I disagree with it completely. Every person is different, every spirit is unique, and ones mentality should not be measured next to another based on age. I am 21 years old, and yes I will say that I'm a more mature person than when I was a teenager, but I've also always been classified as an "old soul" or mature person growing up. Since birth people always thought I was the eldest out of my older sister and friends. My family always seemed to have given me more responsibility.  I believe in the phrase "old soul" because the body decays not the spirit, which means that some souls are older than others. It's like learning; some people understand certain things faster than others, so why life wouldn’t be seen in the same context? You should never stop learning from birth to death so the older you are the wiser YOU should become, but everyone's starting point is different. So at the

Kid Cudi - Speedin Bullet to Heaven Review

Image
This is a new vibrant shadow sound for Cudi, which the audience is not happy about. The alternative sound that the album creates is unlike the other recorded albums that fans are used to hearing. Speedin' Bullet to Heaven is Cudi's sixth studio album, originally titled Man on the Moon 3 until about 3 months prior to its release. Cudi announced the rename to Speedin' Bullet to Heaven , with apologies to his fans via Twitter and prepared them for the new sound. Cudi bolder states "SBTH isn't Hip Hop its alternative, and sorry he's not the niggas you listen to on the radio." In response to that statement I'll proudly say sorry Cudi this may not be a hip hop album, but you'll always be classified as a part of hip hop. As for Speedin' Bullet to Heaven , I'm an advid hip hop listener so no, this was nowhere near his Man on the Moon duel, but I did enjoy some songs. I could easily relate to songs like "the nothing," and Cudi's

Erykah Badu - But You Caint Use My Phone Review

Image
Badu is back to remind you, But You Caint Use My Phone as she titles her new mixtape the classic 1997 "Call Tyrone" phrase. The mixtape features Andre 3000 and Drake who compliments the tape nicely. Badu's remake of The Isley Brothers "Hello" that features Former lover Andre 3000 is almost perfect. They keep the essence of the song, but still deliver a unique touch to the song. Their voices match up perfectly for the remake. I enjoyed the entire mixtape from start to finish, well except for "U Don't Have to Call" which samples the hook of Usher's 2001 hit single. I just didn't think her vocals fit the beat and the song kind of annoyed me. Other than that I love the mixtape and can play it all day. But You Caint Use My Phone is an updated Erykah Badu as you can clearly hear the difference in comparison to her past material, but she still has her unique sound to represent who she is. Overall I enjoyed the mixtape and rate it an 8 out of 10.

Black Friday Special (Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole)

Image
Who Snapped the Hardest? Hip Hop heads have been waiting close to two years these two to release a collaboration album that have been mentioned on several occasions. Well idk if hour appetite is satisfied or if our questions have been answered, but the release of these two songs will definitely keep the inquiries. Cole saying something will be released in February and with a clip surfacing online of Kendrick mouthing his verse on a new song with the two rappers gives us a lot of hope. As for the Black Friday gift, Kendrick is rapping over J. Cole's "A Tale of Two Cities" and J. Cole is rapping over Kendrick's "Alright". First and foremost I have to say that they both were great and should've been featured on each other’s songs. Their voices just fit the songs. I'm a J. Cole fan so naturally I'm slightly bias towards him, but he did in fact snap. I don't know if I like the fact that he put a chorus inside of the song, but towards the end

Do You Read? #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day 8 One of the first books I remember reading was The Giver . I was in grade school when I read this book, about a young boy named Jonas living in this Utopian society written by Lois Lowry. In New Orleans we were required to read the books on the summer reading list that we received at the end of the year. Within the first week of the new school year we'd get tested on those books. I loved this book, because at such an early age it made me question this society and the way people think based on what they're taught to believe. The Giver forces you to think of what exactly "right and wrong" is, and who determines those logistics. In 2014 The Giver was released as a movie, starring Jeff Bridges as the giver and Brenton Thwaites as Jonas. The film was a minor success, setting up a platform for a sequel. I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as I did the book.     A book I didn't like so much was Let the Circle Be Unbroken , the sequel to Roll of Thunder H

Lil Wayne No Ceilings 2 Review

Image
Somehow I've managed to adapt to the current Lil Wayne. I've accepted the fact that the old Lil Wayne will never come back, unless he's on a feature. He seems to have very solid features, but as for his own projects well that's a completely different story. No Ceilings 2 is similar to No Ceilings because it contains songs that Wayne remade to fit his character, alongside a couple of original pieces. However that's the only similarity. No Ceilings to many is consider Wayne best mixtape with songs like "I'm single" and "DOA," hands down classic, but No Ceilings 2 is the complete opposite. Yes, there are some good songs on No Ceilings 2 like "No Reason" which feature King Los, he snapped. Wayne's touch on "Diamonds Dancing" was pretty nice also, but as for Hotline Bling, Wayne please never do that again!!! Wayne's version of Hotline Bling sounds more like a parody song. As for the complete mixtape, I didn't

Bond, James Bond Spectre Review

Image
007 is back, well actually in this film they're deteriorating, Daniel Craig starred as James Bond, is ordered to stop any pursuits towards the Spectre organization.  A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of it to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE. This is a great action film, as there are twist and turns around every corner. As soon as the intensity leveled, BAM! Here comes more. The story line was very detailed that captured the audience attention. How do I know? Well, I am not an action movie kind of person and I managed to enjoy the 3 hour long movie without falling to sleep. Craig was a good choice to depict the 007 character, very believable alongside the beautiful co-star Lea Seydoux, who plays Dr. Madeleine Swann. Swann is the daughter of a member of the Spectre organization, who parted ways from her father because

Top 10 Greatest Rappers of All Time

Image
I'm First in foremost you cannot be considered the greatest of anything if you're not recognized. No that doesn't mean the more titles you have determined your greatness, but a substantial amount of people should agree before calling you the greatest. Why? "Great" people influence more people and greater people. Great people skills ultimately are recognized before their name. For example; Michael Jordan is considered one of the greatest, and during his time I'm sure there was a person that could've beaten him, but that doesn't mean that they have more skills than Jordan. If greatness was determined by one time frame, one game, one accolade, and one album, than a lot of "Greats" wouldn't or would be “Great.” Time ultimately shows your talent, work ethics, being able to withstand even under pressure. You could be the best basketball player in the world but if no one sees it, you're only great to yourself, and if you don't compete h

What Does Your Tattoo Mean? #30DayBlogChallenge

Image
Day 7  My tattoo story Well I was a sophomore in college when I decided to finally get my first tattoo. I had been thinking about this tattoo since I graduated high school, but I wasn't old enough or was willing to pay over $40 for the tat. I have only one tattoo located on the lower side of my waist. The tattoo is a red broken heart with white Mickey Mouse hand gloves ripping the heart. My tattoo is a replica of Kanye West 808s and Heartbreak album cover. However the tattoo for me symbolizes not only overcoming relationship heartbreak but being able to withstand myself no matter what life throws at me. I always look at my tattoo when I'm in a difficult situation in order to remind myself that I've survived worse and it instantly makes me feel better. I also am a fan of Kanye West and love music in general so that helps. I love my tattoo, although people keep saying that I will regret it, but I can't see that ever happening because of the story behind it.
