A Condom That Changes Colors When You're STD Positive

Solution or Nah?

So you and bae are kissing and touchin’ and you got the smooth R&B playlist going. He’s taking off your shirt, you’re unbuckling his belt. He’s kissing your neck and you reach over to grab the condom. He puts it on and then bam! The condom turns green. Well, according to a group of groovy kids from the UK that have developed condoms that change color if you have an STD, it could mean bae has chlamydia.
London’s Isaac Newton Academy students Muaz NawazDaanyaal Aliand Chirag Shah, cleverly titled the “smart” condom S.T. EYE. The group of 13 and 14 year olds maintain they intended to create the condom to offer people different ways of knowing their status.
“We wanted to make something that made detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors.”
The condom uses a built in indicator that changes color when it comes in contact with any disease or bacteria. It may turn green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for human papillomavirus, or blue for syphilis.
For their awesome efforts, the kids won the top health innovation prize at the Teen Tech Awards, some cash and a trip to Buckingham Palace.
Now don’t go thinking these color condoms will be on the shelves at your local drug store. This is very much so a concept and not an actual product…yet!
