During the rise of this rap and hip-hop phenomenon were a select few of female Emcees whose name will always hold weight, when comparing the great female rappers . Of course, you have Queen Latifah, MissyElliot , MC Lyte, and even the modern Queen of rap Nicki Minaj, but like the men of hip hop, it took a few untold stories to evolve these respected acts of today. In the beginning rappers couldn’t make enough income to support themselves, because hip hop and rap was yet to be considered a music genre. So, throughout the Burroughs of New York, Emcees used battle rap as a positive outlet to express themselves, while creating a form of revenue. However, as the music evolved, so did the talent, inspiring more and more people which eventually led to 2018, where hip hop is the number 1 recording genre in the world. The rise of female Emcees As a hip-hop connoisseur , the moment I heard rumors of the legendary Roxanne Shanté biopic, I was instantly thrilled. Being a 90s baby, you ...

In the midst of welcoming home two little ones, HOV managed to strike a deal with sprint and create a new album. Talk about a man that never sleeps, Jay-Z is once again expanding his generational influence. The sporadic announcement of his name change alongside introducing the new album 4:44 , instantly went viral. This is a win-win situation for the Carters, because regardless of the outcome they've maintained popularity for over 2 decades, with an increasing net worth. Audiences all over the world are awaiting to hear 4:44 , and even more people are awaiting for them to reveal the names and genders for their newborn twins. Similar to the deal with T-Mobile, back in 2012 when Jay-Z released Magna Carter Holy Grail , only Sprint customers will have free access to the album. Only this time Jay-Z will be using his own streaming platform "Tidal," meaning that if you're not a Sprint customer you'll have to pay for the Tidal app in order to listen to the album. I...

Since the revolution of music, artist have collaborated in order to exchange fan bases and create new sounds. Collaborations ultimately benefits both parties, most of the time one star isn't as popular in the media and the other needs to remain relevant in the media hence the collab. Recently major artist like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West etc... have been criticized by audiences addressed as vultures for hopping on popular songs and instead of helping the artist, stealing their artist identity while the artist rapidly declines in status. For example Kanye remixed Chief Keef's " Don't Like " Keef remained popular the entire year and now he's unknown, Drake hopped on Fetty Wap's " My Way " and completely took the Migos flow after " Versace ." Although they all were great songs, the business of music definitely left a bad taste with hip hop fans. We're seeing more seasonal artist versus long term hip hop develop in the industry. Ba...

Yeezy Season 3 Hmm I like I like Kanye, 30 hours is close to perfect with Kanye’s timing, production, and flow. Do to his recent twitter rants and back 2 back feuds between him and Wiz Khalifa, I began to wonder if he would release anymore music on Friday as promised. Well he definitely made up for the Friday's he skipped, 30 hours reminds me of old Kanye. I'm talking   College Dropout  Kanye. Last night Tidal streamed some of   Pablo   formerly titled Swish and Waves. Kanye displayed his new Yeezy season 3 collection sported by his team of Kardashians. This fashion show/album release instantly took over the internet, so he followed up with the release of 30 hours.   The Life of Pablo  is a fitting for Kanye as an artist, because his career has been so intriguing and so far the songs previewed matched with the exception of Facts of course.

This is a new vibrant shadow sound for Cudi, which the audience is not happy about. The alternative sound that the album creates is unlike the other recorded albums that fans are used to hearing. Speedin' Bullet to Heaven is Cudi's sixth studio album, originally titled Man on the Moon 3 until about 3 months prior to its release. Cudi announced the rename to Speedin' Bullet to Heaven , with apologies to his fans via Twitter and prepared them for the new sound. Cudi bolder states "SBTH isn't Hip Hop its alternative, and sorry he's not the niggas you listen to on the radio." In response to that statement I'll proudly say sorry Cudi this may not be a hip hop album, but you'll always be classified as a part of hip hop. As for Speedin' Bullet to Heaven , I'm an advid hip hop listener so no, this was nowhere near his Man on the Moon duel, but I did enjoy some songs. I could easily relate to songs like "the nothing," and Cudi's ...

Badu is back to remind you, But You Caint Use My Phone as she titles her new mixtape the classic 1997 "Call Tyrone" phrase. The mixtape features Andre 3000 and Drake who compliments the tape nicely. Badu's remake of The Isley Brothers "Hello" that features Former lover Andre 3000 is almost perfect. They keep the essence of the song, but still deliver a unique touch to the song. Their voices match up perfectly for the remake. I enjoyed the entire mixtape from start to finish, well except for "U Don't Have to Call" which samples the hook of Usher's 2001 hit single. I just didn't think her vocals fit the beat and the song kind of annoyed me. Other than that I love the mixtape and can play it all day. But You Caint Use My Phone is an updated Erykah Badu as you can clearly hear the difference in comparison to her past material, but she still has her unique sound to represent who she is. Overall I enjoyed the mixtape and rate it an 8 out of 10....

Rumors of a possible follow album to the 98 classic Miseducation of Lauryn Hill continues and fans are excited. Almost two decades away from the music scene, with one solo album to her name Lauryn Hill. Fans like me always felt deprived of music from L Boogie, because she only has one official solo album and her MTV Unplugged, which contains a small collection of 14 live songs performed at a concert. I was scared that her legacy would be overlooked because of the changes in hip hop and R&B. What makes the Miseducation a classic? The profoundness of Hill's voice and innovative songs to match gave the Miseducation a unique sound, especially during that era. No one sound like Ms. Lauryn Hill and to this day she's the only female rapper that has said to inspire all sexuality. With songs like: "Zion" "That Thing" and “Ex-Factor" anyone can relate to and gives variety to the album.  Having such a soulful sound and deep topics, makes me wonder how Hi...

The internet went crazy after the release of  What a Time to Be Alive , Drake and Future collaboration project. After thoroughly listening to the new Drake & Future album What a Time to Be Alive, I've concluded that this is the best club banger album of the year. Yes, I agree with the audience. Now comparing What a Time to be Alive to Watch The Throne is a far stretch, but I will say Future and Drake delivered on their expectations. This is the str...

Uncovered Classics As you all should know by now, I am a Hov fan, so hearing that an old tape surface created much joy in my heart. Although the surface of this demo may be another marketing technique from Hov in order to solidify the Hov era another decade. The lyrical content and flow in the demo creates this masterpiece. The production inside the tape is lacking, but he gets a pass being that this is prior to the Yeezus era. Audiences have voted to make this a reasonable doubt 2! Well done Hov.  Powered by Spinrilla.com

Happy Throwback Thursday    A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation Remember when New York and the other surrounding northern cities dominated the hip hop industry? I'm talking about the Wu Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Big L, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, DMX, Slick Rick, Mobb Deep & Many more! Well all has definitely changed, since that time hip hop has become more national and international. Now you see MCs from all over the globe, but myself and many others miss and remember what hip hop use to be. Rappers are no longer coming from Cali, New York and occasionally the mid west. People the international success of hip hop isn't a bad thing though, this simply mean the genre has finally taken over the world. Hip Hop spread like a wild fire after the historic 90s era! I'm proud that the music I love is impacting so many people in different ways, allowing highly skilled new talent to arise! So for throwback thu...
