Donald Glover has become known for his unique creative style. Starring in his own FX series production that became an instant hit for its dynamic take on the Atlanta culture, Glover just takes my breathe away. While having a name in both music and film Donald was able to release 10 projects, including his newest album Awaken My Love . Released on December 2, 2016, Awaken My Love is the third album by Childish Gambino . This unexpected album is silently going viral, meaning this is an underground diamond. If you're listening to hear pure rap/ hip hop than don't bother, because you're not getting that from this album. Awaken My Love is old school funk mixed with rock n roll, and not that pop mainstream rock. I wish Prince were alive to hear this album because it sounds like he influenced much of the album in songs like Terrified and Zombies . Speaking of Zombies, I'm pretty sure that it's my favorite song, but then again me and your mama!! Their isn't a...

Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo died early Tuesday morning in a unspeakable car accident after leaving Blue Flame strip club. The rapper was most known for Atlanta group D4L and their hit single "Laffy Taffy," which helped make Atlanta a hip hop Mecca. His feud with Atlanta's most mainstream artist T.I. grew Shawty Lo's fan base, allowing his solo single "Dey Know" to take over the radio. Shawty Lo literally moved Units in the City , which is also the title of his debut album. Shawty Lo leaves behind his 10 children and a name as for being a good father and provider who always contributed to his home that we know as, Bankhead. Rest easy Shawty Lo, my middle school years would've been nothing without your songs, and you'll always be remembered.

With Atlanta currently being the hip hop music capital, it came as no surprise when FX announced a show titled Atlanta as a new series. The series stars Glee actor and rapper Donald Glover aka "Childish Gambino" as Earn, a struggling ATL native who comes across the opportunity to improve his lifestyle through the music industry. Earn is the cousin of a local rap artist, Paper Boy who's at the beginning of what looks like a promising rap career, that Earn offers to manage in attempt to gain income. As an Atlanta resident the characterization of the series shows dept insight of the ATL culture and personalities that you'll find in many areas of the city. Setting the base and tone of the series, while connecting each character to the main plot. The pilot episodes created instant interest for its audience, touching on topics like gun violence , influencing the youth, and of course police brutality. Which are all topics that are present in today's society. Overa...

Welcome home, a slimmer Gucci Mane after a 3 years sentence in Atlanta's Federal prison, for pleading guilty to illegal gun possession by a felon, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct and more. Already a felon, clearly this wasn't Gucci's first time in trouble with the law. Fans were surprised by the early release of Gucci and hours after rumors of an upcoming mixtape release has been in conversation. Although Gucci has released several mixtapes while being incarcerated , it's nothing like having him free to do it.  Fans were unprepared to see him go away for this long, because the prior incidents were not during such a prominent time musically.  Gucci Mane and Brick Squad are the reason trap music is as popular as it is today. They created a unique cultural sound for Atlanta rappers, outside of them being just down south music. Before Gucci Mane Atlanta rappers had the down south country boy sound, but there wasn't a uniqueness to them. Let's be rea...

Day 2 To give you guys a brief history about myself, I am originally from New Orleans, LA and was raised there until age 11. In 2005 I evacuated to Atlanta, GA because of Hurricane Katrina, I was in 7th grade living with my family which consisted of my cousins, parents, siblings, aunt, uncle, and grandparents. With that being stated my earliest childhood memory takes place in the city of New Orleans. I separate my memories based on seasons, people, times, locations, music, and important events, because I feel that separating them makes me remember more. So I would have to say that one of my earliest childhood memories is playing on a school yard. My sister and I are only 16 months a part, so she was always a grade level ahead of me. I was always a loner even as a small child, I played with very few children, actually the friends I made as a young child are still my dear friends today. So when my sister's class came on the play ground I instantly went to hug her, without rega...

All We Need is Raury with his debut album which endorses peace, unity, and happiness. Normally I'd wait a few days before reviewing a new album, in order to let the piece sink in and develop an open minded opinion, but no need for All We Need . Atlanta native Raury introduced his unique sound to us at the beginning of 2015 with a 6 track ep titled Indigo Child.  Shorty after he made the XXL Freshmen Class of 2015 cover, really making a mark by having the best freestyle out of the class in my opinion. Today, October 16, 2015 Raury released his debut album All We Need.  If you like and understand The Beatles or John Lennon then you should love Raury. He promotes unity, peace, and fun, while addressing political issues that I agree are important for everyone to know about. I personally wouldn't categorize Raury's music as rap or hip hop; although after that Freshmen freestyle and songs like "Forbidden Knowledge" proves he can be consider a r...

More music from an upcoming female rapper named Li Li Nicols. The song samples El Debarge "I Like," and although she puts her own unique twist on the song, Li Li Nicols managed to keep its smooth sound. DAG is an acronym for dreams.ambition.goals, the title of the single and upcoming mixtape. Such a demanding voice from such a small person. Tell us what you think?

R. Thomas Sweet, Unique, Mystique are the perfect words to describe R. Thomas. Located on Peachtree, their outdoor unique appearance might make you underestimate the great food. RThomas has the best French toast in the city!! This is a great place if you want the usual breakfast with a great taste. Their homemade potatoes are to die for. RThomas is fairly secluded to be on such a Main Street in Atlanta, which provides an even better experience.  Thumbs Up If you're having a taste for fish n grits, Thumbs Up is for you. I'm very picky about my grits because most restaurants usually mess them up, but not here. Their cheese come with your choice of cheese and is portioned very well. This simple but welcoming diner is ideal for the city jogger, students roaming, and people who want something quick, easy, and tasty. Thumbs up is reasonably priced for anyone to enjoy. Murphy's Catering more to the 21 and older crowd with their full bar Murphy's is a nic...

Mr. Ice Cream Man Unexpected new music from Guwop is the talk of the internet. Although Guwop is currently incarcerated he still has remained somewhat relevant in the music streetz. Honestly I am not a fan of Gucci's music, and never was, but Guwop has my respect. Back in 2006 I never expected this Atlanta movement that Brick Squad took over with to last over 3 years, and the movement definitely has made a legendary place in hip-hop. With the guidance of Deb (Waka Flocka mom), Brick Squad dominated Atlanta, making the Atlanta turn up "sound" a type of culture, whether you like it or not, this is true. As for the new mixtape King Gucci, I think it's a good tape for Guwop. King Gucci has all of the right features such as: migos, fetty wap, pee wee long way, Riff Raff etc... Those are good features because those artists are relevant to the ATL sound lane with the exception of Young Thug. I also like how he used more producers making the beats and overall sound sli...
