RIAA Changes Rules to Album Certifications

Image
The RIAA announced yesterday that streaming will now be included upon determining album sales, making Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly , Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise , and The Weekend's Beauty Behind the Madness all certified platinum. TDE CEO responds via Twitter "we don't stand behind the RIAA BS" and I agree. For those of you who don't know, originally in order to qualify as having a platinum selling album, 1 million units need to be sold. A number of streams on an album are no where similar to how many physical copies are bought. T he RIAA says 1,500 song or video streams will be equivalent to ten track sales or one album sale. Streaming is free for the user there for if one person is a Kendrick listener, that one person could possibly stream the album at the least 365 times in one year without costing them a cent. Now if that same person bought the album the odds of them repurchasing the same album are slim to none. Mathematically if about ...

Top 10 Albums of 2015

Image
This list was derived based on album sales, relevancy, Billboard charts, art, quality, and overall organized sound of the album. There is no particular order or rank for the list, just 10 of the year’s best albums from my perspective. These are not album reviews meaning I am not critiquing the albums. For my thoughts and criticism on the albums, go to my music reviews. Big Sean - Dark Sky Paradise   Although you haven't heard much from Sean in the latest months of the year, he's definitely have had a great year. Sean released his third studio album Dark Sky Paradise on February 24, 2015 and well, he's been waaaay up, blessed since having over 300,000 in sales. The lead single "I Don't F*** With You" shot straight up the charts going platinum 3x making fans anticipate the album. The follow up singles; Paradise, Blessings, Play No Games, and One Man Can Change the World all topped the music charts at their release time. Dark Sky Paradise is certi...

Diddy MMM First Listen Review

Image
Guess Who's Back? Yep, Bad Boy! Diddy decided to release an unexpected mixtape title  MMM  for all the Bad Boy fans. Saluting none other than the late Notorious B.I.G. Puff Daddy is making sure his legacy lives on in this tape. This star studded mixtape features Bad Boy's current roster; King Los, Lil Kim, and French Montana, but also artist like Future, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Travis Scott and more. I enjoyed  MMM  because it brings out that classic New York sound that us 90s babies remember. My favorite is the "Facts" introduction, Oooh that was cold! Great way to introduce your legacy Puff, and yes I have to refer to you as Puff, because that's what this mixtape does,  MMM  brings me back. King Los is hands down the best MC on the tape, Big Sean second this time. Diddy still sucks at rapping, but he's Diddy. The only flaw I can hear in  MMM  is the hooks could've been a little more catchier, but other than that,  MMM  is solid. I giv...

Big Sean Dark Sky Paradise Review

Image
Play No Games Released February 24, 2015   Dark Sky Paradise  is the third studio album from Good Music's artist Big Sean. The album lead single "IDFWU," made Dark Sky highly anticipated. The selection of songs that Sean has given us in Dark Sky is pure A1 quality. Dark Sky beats are impressive, accommodating Sean’s' voice and flow. Big Sean has always given fans very solid albums, so I'm not surprised that he delivered. Honestly I didn't like "IDFWU," great beat and extremely catchy, but the song was quite petty and lacked essence in my opinion. "Play No Games" is my favorite song off of the album because, well Big Seam straight snapped on the song. The title of that song is very appropriate, displaying Sean's lyrical side. While having songs like "Paradise" on the album as a nice trap/hood balance. Overall I enjoyed   Dark Sky Paradise ; this is definitely Big Sean's best album to this date. With that being said I...

Could this be Ricky Rozay first platinum album and/or Grammy? Leading with the hit single "Devil is a Lie" featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross has topped the digital album charts on Billboard. This will be the first time for the rapper to do this. It's amazing that he's charted over Pharrell's GIRL , especially with all the attention being on Pharrell lately.  Rick Ross has always been that guy in hip hop who does just enough ...
