Drake ft Gucci Mane Back on the road

Welcome home, a slimmer Gucci Mane after a 3 years sentence in Atlanta's Federal prison, for pleading guilty to illegal gun possession by a felon, possession of marijuana, disorderly conduct and more. Already a felon, clearly this wasn't Gucci's first time in trouble with the law. Fans were surprised by the early release of Gucci and hours after rumors of an upcoming mixtape release has been in conversation. Although Gucci has released several mixtapes while being incarcerated, it's nothing like having him free to do it. Fans were unprepared to see him go away for this long, because the prior incidents were not during such a prominent time musically.

Gucci Mane and Brick Squad are the reason trap music is as popular as it is today. They created a unique cultural sound for Atlanta rappers, outside of them being just down south music. Before Gucci Mane Atlanta rappers had the down south country boy sound, but there wasn't a uniqueness to them. Let's be real, before Gucci you couldn't tell the difference between a Houston rapper and an Atlanta rapper. Drake knows the impact Gucci has made on Atlanta and music, saying "Gucci get out its goin be a problem," on Digital Dash. Gucci made it possible for artist like Future to be accepted not only in hip hop, but in all genres. In 2016 EVERYONE enjoys trap in some type of way, whether you hear a random song and bob your head or if you know all of the lyrics. I'm a 90s type of hip hop listener and I was never a Gucci Mane fan, but if you put on March Madness I'm dancing and since Future I've found myself actually enjoying Gucci.

I guess those rumors are true, because Gucci Mane has already released a new song with Mike Will "First Day Out Tha Feds." Take a listen and see if this slim Gucci Mane still got what it takes to run Atlanta.

(Update)
Gucci went straight back to work since his release. Dropping new music hours after his release, announcing that him and producer Mike Will are working on a project together and now featuring on  Drake's new song "Back on road." Looks like Guwop took those years away to invest in his career and health. Good job, because he's coming back strong.
