5 songs on More Life that sound like other Drake songs

1. Free Smoke & Grammy
Although these songs have completely different arrangements on each album, they both share similar content and sounds. Free Smoke begins with the choir like sound that have become more popular in hip hop and leads into the natural base upbeat sound. Grammy just instantly goes into the upbeat tempo Drake flow on both songs are almost synonymous, but Free Smoke just isn't as catchy as Grammy.

2. No long talk & Energy
Besides the fact that the songs share the same sound bite. The beat and flow Drake uses screams Energy, if not the entire sound of If you're reading this. I appreciate the fact that Drake always features unknown artist, giving them a chance to "prove" themselves, but in this case I'm not sure Giggs fit the beat of the song.

3. Madiba Riddim & Controlla
I guess on this album Drake was really feeling the Caribbeans, because majority of the album sounds island influenced. This comes as no surprise, because to avid Drake listeners, we've heard the Jamaican style in earlier years in songs like "Find your love" off of Drake's debut album. However the vocal style and tempo are very similar in Madiba Riddim and Controlla.

4. Do not disturb, Lose You & 30 for 30 freestyle
Drake is known to sign off his albums with straight rap, classic hip hop kind of style, and More Life is no different. Although do not disturb doesn't give a classic hip hop sound he's still only rapping. This instantly reminded me of how he ended What a time.

5. Gyalchester & The Hype
I actually like this Gyalchester song, but that doesn't mean that the sound doesn't sound recycled. The flow is exactly like the Hype, and the base club sound is an automatic go to for Drake.

After heavily listening to More Life, I've concluded that the songs on the project don't maintain my attention. They are not catchy and good enough for me to crave that Drake sound that audiences have become accustomed to over the years. Is the album bad? No, because Drake will never have a bad album, but it's definitely at the bottom of the barrel of the Drizzy collections. Normally when I harshly criticize an album 2 days later I'm in love with the album, but I don't see this happening for More Life. Every time I listen to More Life I'm forced to go listen to his past albums and my dislike for this album grows.

Drake fans are indifferent and confused about what's the direction of this album, like is it reggae, pop, or hip hop. Yes I understand that some audiences enjoy the sporadic music genres fused into one, but many feel as if this makes the album seem rushed and all over the place. More Life doesn't contain that unique new sound that Drake normally brings to the industry in every album, and instead shows a predictable medium allowing audiences to easily skip through and overlook the album. However this is ok for Drakes sake, because he's at an infinite level that a subpar album won't hurt his career, and he still deliverers on the hits regardless. Songs like Portland which features Travis Scott and Quavo is a bonafide hit! The beats and instruments used on the album is impeccable, each sample compliments Drakes natural voice. The interludes throughout does a good job of trying to tie the album together.

Songs I like on the album are Portland, Teenage fever, Lose, Ice Melts, 4422, Jordan interlude, Sacrifices, and Get it together.

  1. Drake has been putting out the same sound for the last 3-4 years. Drake alone has ruined the hip hop genre. Turning it into soft wannabe sounds and lyrics, and he's been talking about the same stuff since the beginning of his career...women
