Oregon Shooting

Has school shootings becom some what of a pattern in our society? Seems to me like, every time one issue loses its flame the other resurfaces. Now everyone is screaming "Gun Control!" Oh the irony in the formation of events with our minds fresh off of the typical race related issues and sexuality debate.

Here are the details about the shooting:
According to Roseburg, Oregon (CNN) Chris Harper- Mercer, the shooter behind the deadly rampage at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, apparently committed suicide after exchanging gunfire with officers, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said Saturday.
A timeline released by investigators shows that the first 911 call about the Thursday shooting was made at 10:38 a.m. Only six minutes later, Hanlin said, two Roseburg police officers and a state  trooper arrived on the scene. Around 10:46 the officers exchanged gunfire with Harper-Mercer and reported that the suspect was down. Hanlin said the state medical examiner determined the gunman's death was a suicide.

Now pause... This is questionable information because the first statement says that the suspect, Harper-Mercer was engage in a shoot out with cops, so this kid has to have some serious gun handling experience in order to survive that to commit suicide. Personally I don't think anyone could survive in a shoot out against several cops without wearing at least a bullet proof vest. This is not the movies and he was not Neo from The Matrixs.

The nine victims in the massacre ranged in age from 18 to 67. Those killed were 19 yr; Lucero Alcaraz, 20 yr; Treven Anspach, 18 yr; Quinn Cooper, 18 yr; Rebecka Carnes, 59 yr; Kim Dietz, 18 yr; Lucas Eibel, 34 yr; Jason Johnson, 67 yr;  Lawrence Levine, 44 yr; Dawn Moore.

Investigators found 14 firearms connected to the shooter, authorities said. Five pistols and one rifle were found at the college. Police searched his apartment and initially found two pistols, four rifles and a shotgun, Celinez Nunez of the Bereau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Hanlin said investigators later discovered another handgun at the shooters home.

All the weapons were legally obtained by the shooter or family members over the past 3 years through a federally licensed firearms dealers, authorities. A flak jacket was found next to a rifle at the school with five magazine of ammunition, Nunez said. Additional ammunition was found at the residence.

Why would anyone purposely leave fire arms at there house when orchestrating a crime. Of course the defense is he's mentally ill, isn't everyone that shoot up a school. Details are still developing but those questions alongside with the convience of having a presidential elections next year, makes this a perfect event to weigh in on "Gun Control." Distract us from president Obama agreeing to work with Syria and Putin for greater world wide issues.
