The Get Down returns (part 2)

The Get Down is a Netflix tv series that aired its pilot episode on August 12, 2016. This is the story loosely based off of the derivative birth of hip hop. Beginning in the late 70s, also known as the disco era, were 5 boys who expressed themselves differently and were unable to relate to the glamorous life shown on tv. The scene is set in the south Bronx, at the time the Burroughs were popular for poverty, crime, and drugs. Many people were tired of the disco sound, so when the Djs began to use only the initial beat and mixed records together, it created an entirely new sound.

After ending their thrilling debut season with a number of stories that left audiences craving more, rumors surfaced that the first season would be the only season. The rumors were put to rest once it was announced that part two of the show will release on Netflix on April 7, 2017. The clock struck 12pm eastern time and there it was The Get Down part 2. With only 5 episodes for this season, audiences are still in love after the first episode. It's as if the show never went off! Continuing the initial story line of changing the Bronx and Ziek battling to develop himself while maintaining passion in all of his relationships.

Part two also introduces a few new faces and problems, which all of the main characters are now facing, due to a new level of success. With success comes power, change, and egos, which sparks a continuous curiosity for audiences to tune into. Will money alter the morals within everyone? Or has it already? If you haven't begun watching The Get Down, I suggest you get with the program. Part one was creatively developed, merging several different worlds and vantage points into ongoing story. Each actor is a perfect fit for their role, and nothing is too dramatic in the show that would cause it to be unbelievable. The point is, the show makes sense, and is a great representation of where and why hip hop was born. After watching part two of the series, I can tell that the writer hasn't lost their touch, because it displayed the exact same great qualities. I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes and what's more to come from the Get Down brothers.
