The Best and Worst Superhero Movies
As we
approach the release of the highly anticipated superhero movie Batman VS
Superman, I was inclined to write about my top superhero movies and the
overrated ones. Some are recognized as great hero movies, others are overshadowed,
and the rest have been hyped up entirely too much.
The
Favorites
1. The
Incredibles
Although
this is a Disney animated film, it still provides you with that Superhero niche
like the more realistic super movies. There's an intricate plot that threatens
society and a villain that's to be defeated. The story line is well developed
and makes sense throughout the entire movie. The super family displays multiple
powers unlike the each other's, piecing together the perfect super family, who
undergoes family troubles that'll soon be resolved.
2.
Hancock
Will
Smith stars as an unnatural human with abilities to save humans. Unfortunately
this is something Hancock wants to do; he'd rather drink booze and leave
society's problems to the society. The movie is the story of a person
developing their character by confronting their personal issues in order to
become the superhero Hancock. I enjoy this movie, because it's unlike the rest
of the superhero movies, Hancock runs alone and does his own thing regardless
of others opinion.
3. The
Amazing Spider Man
I love
spider man, since Toby Maguire starred as the superhero, but this spider man
nailed it. Spider-Man is normally that geeky guy who transforms into a
heartthrob superhero, but in this particular Spider-Man Andrew Garfield is
already eye candy. He makes Spider-Man look cool even with the glasses on. As
for the classic story line, there are a few twists and turns that is played out
perfectly, but ultimately sticks to the classic script.
4. X-Men
the Last Stand
To me the
overall story line created in the X men series is incredible. This is a
political movie that builds from one movie to the next. You can't just pick up
watching the series in the middle and expect to understand what's going on, that's
just not going to happen. Most superhero movies are like that, but none like
the X Men. The characters fairly change throughout the series and the display
of unique powers that each mutant has is creative. Showing how each power has
its own beneficial use and negative affects for the mutants. Very rare you'll
see the writers duplicate the powers and I love that aspect of the series. The
Last Stand in particular connects each movie and shows the significance of each
main character.
5. The
Dark Knight Rises
I was
torn between putting this and the Avengers, but personally I love the Dark
Knight. I'm not even a batman type of person, but this movie forces me to watch
the entire Dark Knight sequences. Heath Ledger was the best acted joker and
overall villain I've ever watched. He was perfect for the part, so great that I
literally forgot it was him with makeup on. Christian Bale was a great fit for
Batman also, but what kept me watching was the unexpected twist in the movie.
The Dark Knight displays a perfect introduction to Batman's core nemesis that
we've always read about and seen in the previous movies. Anyone watching can
instantly see that the writing was crafted to make you crave for a continuance.
Overrated
Superheroes Movies
1.
Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds
was the perfect match for the character, the characters were perfectly
introduced, and the comedy was hilarious. However the plot to me could've been
more developed, because there was never a true nemesis or threat introduced.
Although this was a pilot movie I feel like the platform for the need to have
deadpool wasn't discovered, and the movie didn't set the tone for a possible
sequel. Like what does Deadpool do? What's the need for him to have this movie?
What's his purpose as this supernatural person? None of those questions were
answered in the movie, but I guess I have to read the comics in order to find
out. There's nothing wrong with leaving unanswered questions in a movie, but
following those questions should be a desire to want more. I have no desire to
watch a sequel to Deadpool if there's one in the making. Deadpool was more like
a parody for superhero movies, and not a real superhero movie.
I'm not
sure if this movie was ever highly anticipated, but the idea of an ant being a
superhero is just dumb. I've never seen the movie not do I have any desire to.
I'm sure the acting and storyline was probably good, but no one will ever feel
intimidated by an ant, simple.
3. Cat
Woman
This is
by far one of Halle Berry's worst movies from my perspective. Although she
looked stunning throughout the entire movie, she over acted the entire script.
Alongside this mediocre storyline, was a forgettable conclusion. Let's just say
that there's reasons why a sequel hasn't been developed. I still to this day,
don't know if Cat woman is a superhero or super villain.
4. The
Green Lantern
The movie
was well cast and the storyline displayed creativity, but overall the movie was
corny. The writers spent so much time developing the character that it seems
like they forgot it was a superhero action movie. Although they had all of the
right formulas to create a great superhero movie, the execution didn't flow together.
The directors and writers just over thought the movie trying to make something
that it wasn't.
5.
Fantastic Four
Released
in 2015 was this highly anticipated movie the Fantastic Four, and after
watching it I was highly disappointed. I thought this movie would be synonymous
to the Avengers, but it failed my expectations. The Fantastic Four trailers
displayed all of the ingredients for the perfect team superhero movie, but
instead I'd rather watch Hellboy. The character introduction was horrible, the
plot had no dynamic, and the acting sucked. Do we even know how they all came
together? How did they get their powers? Idk maybe those questions were
answered in another movie, but this movie just didn't come together to make
sense. The only excitement I got was from watching Michael B. Jordan.
