#RealityTV Death of Artist & Athletes
My List
Athletes
Terrell Owens
Well lets start this blog of with of course T.O. T.O is...my bad was, a pretty good Wide Receiver for the San Francisco 49ers in 1996 and throughout his football career he wasa traded to different teams, due to anger problems. Owens career ended with the Cincinnati Begals in 2010. Long career Owens had right? Yes, T.O. had a long career and some might even say that the reason his career ended is because of his age. However I don't. Owens football career was pretty consistent (minus his temper tantrums). Owens "age" did not come to light until he starred in his own reality show. "The T.O. Show" displayed his personal life getting him caught up in the spot light. Well T.O. at least you will have an early retirement or maybe you can get a spot on sportscenter one day.Ochocinco
Chad Ochocinco is the perfect example of what I am talking about in this post. Ochocinco is a Pro Bowl Wide Receiver, who played with the Cincinnati Bengals as Chad Johnson from 2001-2010. Good career Right? Yes, I guess you can say Ochocinco was doing his thing, but Ochocinco is only 34 years old and his career has already ended before he even obtained a Super Bowl ring. So why isn't Ochocinco still playing football? Well once he starred in his own reality show, The Ultimate Catch he stopped being the All-star Wide Receiver that we were use to seeing, however he still played for a football team. It wasn't until he married, Basketball Wives reality show personal, Evelyn Lozada and created their own reality, is when he was dropped from the New England Patriots. SMH, See now Chad is an unemployed ex football player that is probably sitting on his couch wondering what went wrong. Well I'll tell you Chad, you got too caught up in the spot light also and forgot to do the job that you were getting paid for. Chad doesn't have the reality show anymore because of an recent incident between Chad and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, where Ochocinco was arrested for domestic violence. Yeah Chad we know you head butted Evelyn lol, however we have yet to hear the reason of why you head butted her. SMH, Chad hopefully next year is better for you.
Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom's career has always been shuffled around, but he spent most of his basketball career as a forward for the LA Lakers, where he won 2 NBA championships. Odom is only 33 years old and is extremely talented, so why would no NBA pick him up after he was traded to and dropped from the Dallas Mavericks? Well Odom married Khloe Kardashian who is only known from the reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Once Odom started to appear heavily on the show, the LA Lakers traded him to the Dallas Mavericks and Khloe and Odom starred in their own reality show, Khloe & Lamar, where Lamar was then dropped from the Mavericks and out of the NBA a whole season. Recently Lamar and Khloe divorced after having a kid and their show was canceled but coincidently Lamar was also picked up by the LA Clippers soon after his reality show was canceled. Good Luck Lamar hopefully you focus on your game this time around and not an reality show.Rappers
T.I.
T.I. is a rapper/actor who most people seen him as a trouble maker. After being in prison three times while maintaining his rap/acting career T.I. was relevant and making money having platinum albums like Paper Trail. So why is T.I. on this list? Well first of all his wife already starred in a show while T.I. was incarcerated, Tiny and Toya. Having success from the show Tiny continued a show that now included T.I. called T.I & Tiny: The Family Hustle, displaying their lives on television. Soon after the show's success T.I. released another album No Mercy which only reached gold. Yes, some may say gold is still good, but after having multiple certified platinum albums going back to gold is considered a flop. T.I. had a pretty good fan base but once he got his reality show his life as a rapper started to dwindle. T.I. currently is playing to release a new album on December 18, 2012 but I can't say that we care to hear it, especially with a failing mixtape and single off the album that is to be released. My advice to T.I. is to get off of the reality show and go back to focusing on the music because the music will most likely last longer than the show. The Game
The Game is one rapper that I thought I would never see with their own reality show. The Game has always tried to keep up this hardcore image and to see him show another side of himself is quite entertaining, well at least to me. However I will not say that a reality show is what killed the Game's rap career, but the reality show is killing the one thing his fans thought theat they would always see from the game and that's his hardcore "real" image, and having a reality show doesn't fit that. The Game created a hip-hop classic with The Documentary, and many like myself thought that Game would be the next legendary artist, but boy was we wrong. The Game is simply using this reality show in an attempt to stay relevant, but since filming this reality, Marrying The Game, his music has lost its essence. My advice to the Game is, now that we are inside your personal life try to take a different route when creating music, because we now see that the hardcore life you once lived is not there anymore and hopefully your career doesn't dwindle more than it already has.
Jim Jones
The Dipset member created a platinum single when he released We Fly High (Ballin) in 2006. Yes, everyone and their mama knew that song when it hit the streets. Jim Jones had finally got the buzz he had been looking for his whole career with that single. Many had only heard of him from that single, but the Dipset fans knew who he was, because he was as stated before a member of the New York group Dipset. Jim Jones had his hype up especially with the recent split of the group and also hanging out with Cash Money members, Lil Wayne and Birdman. With the fans on his side we were shocked to see him appear on the reality show, Love & Hip-Hop bringing his fans into his personal life. Yes, of course like many others this was an attempt to stay relevant that eventually backfired on him. The former Dipset member album sales has flopped and he has lost a large piece of his fan base because of this show and even worst the show has become some what irrelevant (like most show eventually do). Well Hopefully his next album will get him more fans, Good Luck Jimmy.Almost Made The List
Lil Scrappy
Its pretty simple as of why Lil Scrappy is not on the list, because he isn't relevant and never really was relevant in hip-hop. Scrappy has not done anything significant in hip-hop to be on this list. I don't even think he has an platinum album, probably not even an platinum single, so yeah. However his sudden apperance on Love & Hip-Hop ATL is the only reason Scrappy ALMOST made the cut. Case Closed!Mike Vick
Some people are saying, why is Mike Vick not up there? Well this is why, although Vick is probably the most troubled NFL star out I didn't put him on the list because the fall off of his career did not really come from reality tv, especially being that his reality show was not much of a hit. Vick has been in trouble for marijuana and sentenced 2 years in prison because of dog fighting. Once Vick was released from prison the Philadelphia Eagles picked him up and Vick was once again ON FIRE! However now Vick has lost it (maybe because of age), and the Philadelphia Eagles has continued their losing streak.Hopefully We Won't See Them On The List
Kanye West
Carmelo Anthony
Athletes and Artist seem to become distracted when they become a part of a reality show. Should we blame reality shows for the death of the artist/athlete's careers? Probably not, because the person is fully aware of the things they should be doing instead of focusing on a reality show that will probably only last a couple of seasons, without reruns aired. Reality Shows goal is to make the relevancy of the artist/athlete last and of course to bring them more revenue, but the drama in the reality shows ultimately get the person off of their tract. Also reality shows are constantly changing and people get tired of shows pretty fast, so the actual reality show will not bring you longevity but simply fast income that eventually will die down. With that being said you're better off sticking to and perfecting your job like football or rapping instead of hoping on a reality show. Normally I would add some text and photos of people that have successfully maintained their artist fan base or athletic job while being the star of an reality show, but I couldn't find any, so with that being said. Case Closed!
