Now Check Out My List

  1. Jay-Z
  2. Jay-Z's debute album "Reasonable Doubt" released on June 25, 1996 went certified
platnium, with the leading singles "Can't Knock the Hustle" and "Ain't No
Nigga." Since then HOV has released over 11 platnium albums including 2011
collaboration album with Kanye West, "Watch The Throne." HOV is number one
because he has not only earned his respect in the game but also maintained his
consistency. HOV has been apart of the game for more than a decade and still is
apart of the Hip-Hop industry, which is why he is relevant. Hopefully HOV drops another solo album sone, but for now we only know of the upcoming "Watch The Throne 2."

  3. Lil Wayne
  4. Lil Wayne is a deserving number 2 for this "Top 90's Rappers Who Are Still Relevant" list. Lil Wayne started as a member of Hot Boys, who released their 3rd album "Guerrilla Warfare" on July 27, 1999. The album debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums selling 142,000 copies in its first week. In November of 1999 Lil Wayne released his solo debute "The Block Is Hot," having 229,000 copies sold in its first week released. The album was a certified platinum, peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200. Lil Wayne has remained relevant by releasing multiple mixtapes, classic albums such as "Tha Carter 2," and consistently releasing new music almost every year since his debute, including his most recent platinum selling album "Tha Carter 4" released on August 29, 2011. Lil Wayne is working on his 10th upcoming album "I am Not a Human Being 2."

  5. Nas
  6. Illmatic is the debut album of rapper Nas, released April 19, 1994. Illmatic is considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums and is a certified platinum album. Nas somehow is always in the public eye. From his beef with Jay-Z, to his divorce to singer, Kelis. Nas has dropped 13 albums, including his recent album "Life is Good," which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, selling 149,000 copies in its first week. "Life is Good" released on July 12, 2012. I am sure that we will be hearing more from this iconic artist. There are rumors of an collaboration album with rapper, Common but we are unknown of the release date.

  7. Eminem
  8. Eminem is an rapper, producer, song wirter, and actor, who has used those titles to remain relevant. "The Slim Shady LP" is the second studio album from Eminem, which was released on February 23, 1999. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 with 283,000 copies sold in its opening week. The first official single, "My Name Is", peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Slim Shady LP went on to be certified quadruple-platinum. Eminem released "Recovery" on June 18, 2010. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 741,000 copies in its first week in the United States. Eminem is currently working on another solo album which he plans to release in 2013, making him still relevant.

  9. Common
  10. I was extremely surprise to not find Common on Hot New Hip Hop's list. Common's 1994 album "Resurrection" (second album) with the hit leading single "I Used To Love Her," brought Common his first taste of success. Common made a name from himself with this song by referring to hip-hop as a woman, and this became very popular after. Common is an actor and has released classic albums such as "Be." Common released his 9th studio album "The Dreamer, The Believer" on December 20, 2011 making him relevant. Common is also a part of Kanye West G.O.O.D Music group who released the album "Cruel Summer" this year (2012). Common is currently working on a collaboration album with rapper, Nas but the release date is unknown. We plan to see another solo album from Common, keep bringing the heat Common!

  11. The Roots
  12. The Roots is anGrammy Award winning band formed in 1987 by Tariq"Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir"Questlove"Thompson. "Things Fall Apart" is The Roots fourth album released in 1999, reaching number four on US Billboard 200, leading with the hit single "You Got Me." The Roots recently released their 10th studio album "Undun" on December 2, 2011 making them still relevant to hip-hop music.

  13. Juicy J
  14. For all you Kids out there that think rapper and producer Juicy J just came into the game, you're wrong! Yes, Juicy J has been a part of the hip-hop world since 1995 with Three 6 Mafia's debute album "Mystic Stylez." As a member of Three 6 Mafia, Juicy J has awards vary from B.E.T's Award for Best Group to the 78th Academy Award for Best Original Song, "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp," in the movie "Hustle N Flow." Juicy J is relevant because of multiple mixtapes and his 2012 album "Stay Trippy," featuring the hit single "Bandz A Make Her Dance."

  15. Diddy
  16. Diddy? Yes diddy, not because he is a great rapper but because Diddy has remained relevant in hip-hop game by not only dropping albums, but also expanding Bad Boy Records, managing artist, like Rick Ross, and having TV shows like, Making the Band Seasons 1-4. "Forever" is debut solo studio album (and second overall) by rapper and producer Diddy released on August 24, 1999. Diddy's most recent album "Last Train to Paris," dropped December 13, 2010.

  17. Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion)
  18. Snoop Dogg who recently renamed himself Snoop Lion is actually one of the most consistent and relevant artist who started in the 90's. Snoop Dogg debut album "Doggystyle"shot to number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold 802,858 copies in its first week alone, when the album dropped in 1993. Since then Snoop Dogg has remained relevant by creating multiple hit albums also including the major hit single "Drop it Like it's Hot," which is featured on commercials, movies, and covered by other artist. Snoop Dogg also dropped his 11th album "Doggumentary" on March 29, 2011 and is currently preparing his upcoming album "Reincarnated" set to release in 2013.

  19. Big Boi
"Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" is the debut of hip-hop duo Outkast, released on April 26, 1994. Since then Outkast fans base has been heavily increased making them one of hip-hop best groups. Why is Big Boi considered still relevant but not Andre 3000? Although 3 stacks is still highly relevant to his fans and other artist, he has not released music since 2006 "Idlewild." Three Stacks also has yet to release a solo album, that we're all dying to hear, so come 3 Stacks we need that album! However Big Boi has, in 2010 he  released a solo album "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty" and is currently working on his second solo album "Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors" set to be release on December 11, 2012.

Comments

  1. Why is Juicy J here and not Andre 3000. Do we have to fight?

  2. Because Andre 3000 hasn't released any albums in the past 2 years
