Beyonce The Formation Tour
If you
haven't seen Beyonce's new Formation video, you've officially been sleep
underneath a rock. The unexpected release took over the Internet instantly.
Being released in the wake of her highly anticipated Super Bowl performance,
the beehive stirred up more attention, talk about great management for the
Queen. Maybe I love the video so much because I'm from New Orleans, but the
video gives you more sass and independence than ever before. Beyonce goes back
to her New Orleans and Houston roots with Formation, "Slay!"
Using Nola as the film location Bey addresses some political issues like;
Hurricane Katrina, Trayvon Martin, and Black lives matter. The video repeatedly
switches scenes one being Bey standing on a submerging police car in the
flooded city and another is a child in a black hoodie dancing in front of armed
cops.
Does the Queen Bey actually care about these issues that we
as a society face? I have no clue, but I do know she's 10 years late with
addressing Hurricane Katrina, 4 years late for the Trayvon Martin incident, but
we're at the climax of the black lives matters issue while in the middle of one
of the most memorable presidential office changes of the century. So who else
is better to broadcast minority issues? Beyonce also announced that she is
forming a foundation with United Way for the Flint Water Crisis. She's doing
more than I have so who am I to say she doesn't care. Although contributing to
such charities are a beneficial tax return for businesses, she's using her
public image to broadcast these issues and that's something we all know she
doesn't have to do. Beyonce has a very established fan base to where she
doesn't even have to make music anymore let alone address controversies.
Performing the new single during the super bowl will definitely draw more
attention to such a controversial video. The beehive got really buzzing once
she announced her world tour following the halftime performance. I am excited,
but also a little confused. Bey dedicated "Formation" the single
she's promoting to New Orleans, but she doesn't have a tour date there? Like
come on that's kind of a slap in the face Bey, fans like me who are native to
the city could see this as you using our tragedy for your income without even
providing us a show. Hopefully management reconsiders and adds New Orleans to
the tour dates.
