5 of the worst music biopics of all time

Image
 5. Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story Although many will disagree with this movie being on the list, the portrayal of Chili has it stand corrected. The script failed to capture Chili's significance in the group. She was overdramatize, by actress Keke Palmer, and although many of the people are still alive, the story still create the feeling of being incomplete. Not just because of the death of Lisa Lopez, but due to the fast development to reach the peak, while having little detail or character build up. Compared to great biopics, and to good/average ones, the TLC Story is a deserving 5th place as worst music biopics. 4. All Eyez On Me: Tupac Shakur Arguably one of the  greatest rappers of all time   who has definitely been the biggest influence on hip hop culture, All Eyez On Me created the biggest upset since the Aaliyah movie. The movie lacked precision, facts, and overall script development. This movie feels as if a fan who watched  Tupac  documentaries c...

Jay-Z is back, welcoming new twins and an album

Image
In the midst of welcoming home two little ones, HOV managed to strike a deal with sprint and create a new album. Talk about a man that never sleeps, Jay-Z is once again expanding his generational influence. The sporadic announcement of his name change alongside introducing the new album 4:44 , instantly went viral. This is a win-win situation for the Carters, because regardless of the outcome they've maintained popularity for over 2 decades, with an increasing net worth. Audiences all over the world are awaiting to hear 4:44 , and even more people are awaiting for them to reveal the names and genders for their newborn twins. Similar to the deal with T-Mobile, back in 2012 when Jay-Z released Magna Carter Holy Grail , only Sprint customers will have free access to the album. Only this time Jay-Z will be using his own streaming platform "Tidal," meaning that if you're not a Sprint customer you'll have to pay for the Tidal app in order to listen to the album. I...

Sza gets sexy in Ctrl

Image
After receiving recognition from Top Dawg Ent , it came as no surprise when she signed to the label in 2013. By 2014, Sza released her debut ep titled "Z" which ultimately established her core fan base. Calmly making headlines with her features and the recent single Love Galore which features Travis Scott, Sza stirred up enough buzz for her mainstream debut. By first promoting the album CTRL on her Instagram with a tattoo, Sza created a trend, while many of her loyal fans follow the tattoo art. With the release of Love Galore, fans and audiences that listened to "Z" can instantly hear the difference in the albums. CTRL is definitely an attempt to appeal to the mainstream audience, but Sza does a good job doing it. Labeled as a conscious neo soul singer, Sza challenges her vocal dynamics, while implementing relatable and common topics in the lyrics. If anyone thought she wasn't sexy before, than you know that she is now. CTRL is about sex, relationships, an...

Listen to Bryson Tiller True to Self

Image
After an unannounced introduction in 2015 with his hit single "Don't," Bryson Tiller made tidal waves through the music industry. In a two year time span and literally with one project, Tiller was able to brand himself as a different sound for hip hop and RnB, titled Trap Soul . Appropriately the name for the debut album, Bryson Tiller came out of nowhere establishing a fan base that takes most artist a minimum of 3 years to develop. By releasing limited amount of new music and capitalizing on features like; Travis Scott's First Take, Dj Khalid's Ima Be Alright, and Gucci Mane's Drove U Crazy, Tiller maintained audiences anticipation for the release of his sophomore album. Titled True to Self , Tiller took it upon himself to release the sophomore album one month before the actual set release date. As soon as fans realized that the album was available on all streaming platforms, reviews flourished. At first listen, instantly you can hear the title "tru...

Dear White People

Image
During such a critical time period in our governmental society, where the only thing people can agree on is the hate towards a president in which the people elected, comes the perfect controversial Netflix series Dear White People . If the name doesn't grab your attention at first read, than the pilot episode definitely will. From the narrated beginning to the incline of each characters stories, which shows how every character has an important role in the overall theme of the show. Dear White People is the story of minority students attending a predominantly white Ivy League university, who feel isolated and frustrated about the lack of diversity and racial tensions inside of the school.  A Halloween party titled "dear black people" in which white students participated in wearing black faces as costumes, prompted these racial tensions. Each episode contains a pilot of the characters perspective, and story that outlines the identity of that character. For instance; Sa...

DAMN Kendrick

Image
After carefully listening to Kendrick Lamar's new album Damn, I've decided that I am proud of Kendrick. Not because of the fact that Damn exonerates any speculations of him lacking creativity or diversity, but how he was able to remain true to his lyrical technique and style. Singles like Humble shows that Lamar clearly understands his value to hip hop and that he won't conform to what's popular. While songs like "DNA" and "Loyalty" resembles modern hip hop, with their repetitive choice of words and beats that grabs audiences eardrums. Once again he combines abstract lyricism with the new age sound that everyone wants to hear.    Apple Music describes Damn as being brutally honest, and I can concur. Kendrick is honest about his feelings towards the music industry, society, and even his personal relationships. He's frustrated about how the unexpected has become a reality, and is confused about staying "loyal" to the path he's begu...
