3 Reasons Why I am Not Boycotting the Oscars

First of all I love Chris Rock; he's one of the funniest comedians of our time. So him alone is one reason that I'm not boycotting the Oscars. Usually I never watch the Oscars, but I planned to watch it this year, because of the honest theatrical comedy of Chris Rock.

Secondly, where were the Smiths when the rap category winner wasn't shown at the 2015 Grammys? Let me answer that, they were watching the show. Award shows have been prejudice since their beginning and clearly in 2016 there hasn't been much of a change. If you're going to boycott the Oscars you should propose a boycott for all of the Award ceremonies.

Thirdly what are the actual motives behind the Smiths boycott? In 2015 over 10 innocent black teens were gunned down and I don't remember seeing none of the Smiths raising a "race" issue then during that time. Did they participate in any events with black lives matter? No. Did they use their money or fame to help any serious causes of the world? No. Their motives seem more selfish than caring, since Will did not receive an expected nomination for his role in Concussion.

Janet Hubert former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actress known as "Aunt Viv" speaks her mind on the boycott, via YouTube that instantly went viral. “First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?" Hubert said in a video message. Jada’s husband, Will Smith, was overlooked for an Oscar for his role in Concussion. "Second thing is, girlfriend, there's a lot of shit going on in the world that you all don't seem to recognize. People are dying, our boys are being shot left and right, people are hungry, people are trying to pay bills, and you're talking about some…actors and Oscars. It just ain't that deep."
